Words In Harmony

When most people pick up a pen, they become self-conscious and are stiffer than they would be speaking. In my work as a writer and editor, I've learned to listen for the rhythm and harmony of words.

The essence of good writing is a natural voice that is authentic. Good writing is also direct and economical, not taking more space than it needs and not meandering in a way that confuses the reader. Good writing is simple, yet not easy to achieve. It takes a long time to become skilled in the craft. My persistence has paid off, and I now have a handful of published books.

I utilize some of my strengths as a writer—-being clear, concise, and tracking the connection between concepts—in my work as an editor and book doctor. These qualities were also honed in my 10 years of college teaching.

Having the experience I do in placing my own books with publishers, working with agents, and self-publishing, I also offer a number of services for authors, including manuscript evaluation, help writing book prosals and query letters, devising a publishing strategy for getting your book published, and targeting and reaching publishers. Calling on all of this experience, I created and taught a class on getting a nonfiction book published.
